Healing Hope
Monday, September 6, 2010 (Augusta, GA). Hope was found this morning. We reach out to you for help restoring her. We are trying to raise $1500 toward to cost of vet care Hope requires.
Hope is being assessed at Augusta Animal Emergency and will receive follow-up care at Burke County Animal Hospital.
No donation is too small.

This gash was likely inflicted more than a week ago, when witnesses saw a car slam into Hope as she nervously tried to cross Washington Road in Augusta.

In addition to the lacerations (Jodi describes them as "meat hanging out in several areas" ) that will need to be sutured, Hope is not weight bearing on her front leg and the vet fears it is broken. She will need costly X-rays to determine the state of her front leg. She is running a fever and has lost a significant amount of weight in the week plus she has been lost.

Per Jodi (Hope's rescuer -- foster mom -- and now forever mom), Hope is behaving so well, despite her obvious pain and discomfort. The love this dog has for her foster family -- which is clearly reciprocal -- is the drug coursing through Hope's veins and calming any fit of fear of pain.

Reunited at last.
Old Fella intake coordinator, Jodi Pope, found Hope on April 24, 2010. The announcement of Hope's arrival into our rescue was an of the hopelessness Old Fella volunteers and other compassionate Burke County, GA residents often feel
It never ends in Burke County.....
Hope was discovered at a county dumpster with 15 puppies. As it turned out, two litters of lives that some depraved heart saw fit to toss out with the table scraps and dirty diapers.

Hope meets Carli for the first time -- Carli and her family would foster Hope, nurse her to health and (as of today) adopt her forever.

Today, both litters of puppies have loving homes in Massachusetts, thanks to Old Fella's incredible partnership with Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, MA.
And Hope was in fine form two weeks ago, when an Augusta family wanted to see if she would fit well into their household.
Old Fella foster dogs often go on sleepover visits with adoption prospects to see how personalities meld.
But Hope -- we guess -- had other ideas. She already had a family. The Pope family. She was (and thankfully IS( Hope Pope.
Hope bolted from the home of her sleep-over and was later spotted being hit by a car on Washington Road. Jodi and Carli and other Old Fella volunteers drove around, knocked on doors and passed out fliers for 4 days straight -- Hoping for hope.
Today--their prayers were answered. HOPE POPE was found!
Yes--Sometimes it feels like it will never end in Burke County. Dogs with the story of Hope are tragically a dime a dozen down here. But for this one, we have made all the difference.
Please donate to help Old Fella heal hope.

Hope's glory -- a photo taken by Old Fella volunteer Mary Baker just days before Hope went on a sleep-over with a potential adoptive family and escaped into the chaos of a very busy area of Augusta.
